Villa Adriana is located in Tivoli, famous tourist resort and spa on the outskirts of Rome.
The ancient name of the city derives from the Tivoli Tibur and was constructed as a refuge of the Roman emperor Adriano. After whom the villa’s historic name derives. During the 16th century Cardinal Ippolito d’Este removed the marble from the statues found in Villa Adriana, then in disuse, to decorate his villa actually called Villa d’Este.
