The town of Castel Gandolfo is known for being the Pope’s summer residence. Although the residence is located within this city in the province of Rome, it is still part of the State of Vatican City.
Castel Gandolfo is surrounded by a national park and overlooks the beautiful lake of Albano. And the “mandatory” stops at typical local restaurants called “fraschette” where you can taste typical dishes and drink a good glass of house produced wine.
